304 and 316L Stainless Fabrication

Washdown Stainless Steel Fabrication for Equipment That Must Be Cleaned Repeatedly

Washdown equipment fails in the details. Water collects behind an unnecessary return flange. A weld creates a crevice that is difficult to clean. A horizontal surface traps residue. A beautiful brushed panel arrives with mixed grain direction.

At Hengtai Leading Technology, we manufacture 304 and 316L stainless steel parts for equipment where cleaning, corrosion resistance and surface condition matter.

We Think About Cleanability Before We Think About Appearance

A washdown-ready part is not defined only by stainless steel grade. Geometry, welding, drainage, fastener location, finish direction and access all influence whether the final equipment can be cleaned effectively.

Design Details We Review

Horizontal ledges and pockets where water or process residue can remain.

Open seams, overlaps and inaccessible crevices.

Weld location and whether grinding or smoothing is required.

Drainage direction and sloped surfaces.

Gasket channels, door returns and seal compression geometry.

Fasteners located inside cleaning zones.

Brush or polish direction on customer-facing stainless surfaces.

Material isolation where stainless meets dissimilar metals.

Access for inspection, cleaning and replacement of internal components.

304 or 316L? Use the Environment to Decide

Our stainless steel fabrication capability includes common grades such as 304 and 316L. 304 is widely used in industrial and food-related equipment, while 316L is often selected when additional corrosion resistance is needed in more aggressive chemical, chloride or coastal environments. The correct grade should be chosen from the actual service conditions and customer specification rather than a generic rule.

Welding Stainless Without Creating a New Maintenance Problem

Welded stainless equipment requires control of heat, distortion and surface condition. We use TIG, laser and other appropriate welding processes according to material thickness, joint geometry and appearance requirements. Where a weld is visible or located in a washdown zone, the drawing should define the expected finishing condition.

Surface Direction and Cosmetic Control

Brushed or polished stainless components can be functionally correct but visually unacceptable if grain direction, weld blending or handling marks vary between panels. For visible equipment, we recommend identifying cosmetic faces and grain direction directly on the drawing.

Enclosures and Panels for Washdown Areas

We manufacture washdown electrical enclosures, stainless steel enclosures and custom stainless panels for food equipment, laboratory systems, process machinery and industrial control applications.

Protection Ratings Require a Defined Validation Plan

If your final equipment requires a formal IP, NEMA or other enclosure rating, the design, sealing components, assembly method and test plan should be defined by the customer and relevant certification process. We manufacture the approved mechanical design and can support the specified gaskets, doors, seams and hardware, but a rating should not be assumed from material alone.

What to Include in a Washdown RFQ

Information Why We Need It
Stainless grade and thicknessDefines raw material and forming behavior.
Cleaning environmentHelps clarify corrosion and surface expectations.
Weld / grind notesDefines seam and visible-surface acceptance.
Grain or polish directionKeeps adjacent cosmetic panels consistent.
Gasket and hardware detailsControls sealing and service access.
Formal rating requirementLets us align manufacturing with the validation plan.
Packaging requirementProtects finished stainless surfaces in transit.

Send Us the Cleaning Environment with the Drawing

Tell us whether the part is exposed to water, chemicals, food residue, disinfectants or outdoor conditions. We will review material, geometry, welding and finish requirements together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you fabricate both 304 and 316L stainless steel?

Yes. We process common stainless grades including 304 and 316L according to customer drawings and material specifications.

Can you control brushed grain direction?

Yes. Grain direction and cosmetic surfaces should be marked on the drawing so they can be controlled through fabrication, finishing and packaging.

Can you manufacture a rated washdown enclosure?

We can manufacture to an approved enclosure design and specified sealing components. Formal rating or certification depends on the complete product design and required validation process.
