Free Sheet Metal DFM Review Before You Release Parts for Production
A drawing can be dimensionally complete and still be difficult, unstable or unnecessarily expensive to manufacture. At Hengtai Leading Technology, we review sheet metal designs before fabrication so our customers can identify production risks while changes are still inexpensive.
Engineering-led commercial intent
Our DFM review is built for engineers, product teams and sourcing professionals who already have a 2D drawing, 3D model or assembly concept and want practical manufacturing feedback.
We do not try to redesign your product for its own sake. We focus on the details that affect cutting, forming, welding, hardware installation, finishing, inspection and assembly.
Review Focus
Manufacturing risks, cost drivers and production feasibility before release.
What We Review in a Sheet Metal Design
We compare the design against the real manufacturing route we would use in our factory. That may include laser cutting, CNC bending, welding, hardware insertion, finishing and assembly.
Bend radius, bend direction, flange length and material behavior.
Hole-to-bend and slot-to-edge distances that may distort during forming.
Tolerance selection: which dimensions are truly functional and which may be relaxed.
PEM nuts, studs, standoffs and fastener access for installation and service.
Weld joint access, heat input, distortion risk and post-weld finishing.
Panel stiffness, reinforcement, return flanges and large flat areas.
Powder-coating masks, grounding points, threads and cosmetic surfaces.
Assembly sequence, tool access and tolerance stack-up between mating parts.
Material grade and thickness choices where an alternative may simplify production.
The Output Is Practical, Not Academic
A useful DFM review should tell you what needs attention and why. Where we see a risk, we explain the manufacturing consequence and suggest an alternative that preserves the intended function. If the design is already suitable, we say so and move directly toward quotation or prototype.
| Review Area | Typical Question | What We May Recommend |
|---|---|---|
| Bending | Will the flange form consistently? | Adjust bend radius, flange length or feature position. |
| Tolerance | Is the tolerance needed for function? | Separate critical dimensions from general dimensions. |
| Hardware | Can the fastener be installed reliably? | Change hole size, spacing, orientation or installation sequence. |
| Welding | Will heat distort the assembly? | Modify joint design, sequence, fixture strategy or weld length. |
| Finishing | Which surfaces must remain conductive or cosmetic? | Define masking and appearance zones on the drawing. |
| Assembly | Can the technician reach every fastener? | Change access, order of assembly or part architecture. |
When to Ask Us for a DFM Review
The best time is before the first prototype, but we also review mature parts when customers are moving to a new supplier or trying to lower manufacturing cost. Our DFM engineering guide explains general design rules; this service applies those principles to your actual files.
New product before prototype release.
Prototype that fits poorly or requires excessive hand rework.
Existing production part with unstable quality.
Assembly with too many welded or separate components.
Part that receives unexpectedly high quotations.
Supplier transfer where the approved design must be reproduced reliably.
Files That Help Us Review Faster
For the clearest review, send both the 3D model and 2D drawing when available. STEP/STP, SLDPRT, DXF, DWG, PDF and IGS are commonly used in our quoting workflow.
Include these details
Material and thickness
Finish and estimated quantity
Critical dimensions

From Review to Prototype and Production
Once the design is ready, we can continue into rapid prototyping, low-volume production or repeat contract manufacturing. Keeping the DFM discussion and production route connected reduces the risk of recommendations that look good on paper but do not translate to the shop floor.
Send Us Your CAD Files for a Manufacturing Review
Upload your drawing package and tell us the material, quantity and project stage. We will review the manufacturing route and flag the issues that matter before production.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you change my design without approval?
No. We provide recommendations and explain the manufacturing reason. Any design change remains under your approval and drawing-control process.
Can you review an existing part from another supplier?
Yes. A DFM review is useful for supplier transfers, cost-reduction programs and parts with recurring fit or quality issues.
Do I need a complete drawing package?
No. We can begin with the files you have, but a 3D model plus a dimensioned 2D drawing gives us the strongest basis for manufacturing and inspection planning.
